CUSCO MISTICAL 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS

DAY 1 MARAS – MORAY

We will leave the hotel and head for the salt mines of Maras, which have been exploited since Inca times using a system of evaporation of salt water in a series of pools fed by a subterranean stream. There are hundreds of pools at these mines. We will then visit the archaeological remains of Moray, which consist of concentric circular agricultural terraces. Each circle is a terrace superimposed on another terrace, with each circle of a greater circumference than the one below. Those who have studied Moray believe that it was an Inca agricultural research station where experiments were carried out to produce crops for different altitudes. The arrangement of these terraces reproduces the region’s distinct microclimates, with as many as twenty different ecological floors simulated at Moray. It is thought that Moray would have served as a model to improve the agricultural production of not just the Urubamba Valley, but also other parts of the Inca Empire of Tahuantinsuyo. We will spend the night in our Sacred Valley hotel.
